Anne Bingham Goess

Anne grew in Palo Alto, California, where she studied classical violin and played with the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra. After squeaking out her last high note in the Pomona College Symphony, she put the instrument down for many years to focus on musical theater and choral music. But hearing Irish fiddler Martin Hayes in 1996 was an epiphany that led her on a new journey through the world of folk music.
Anne now enjoys playing for Irish, contra and English country dances in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her contra and English Country band, the Raggedy Annes (with Andy Eggleston and Charlie Hancock) has been delighting Bay Area dancers since 2008 with its expressive twin fiddle sound, and has performed at the BACDS Spring Weekend and for the Playford Ball. Anne has also performed and recorded with Irish jazz chanteuse Melanie O’Reilly, toured with the Three Irish Tenors, and with the Wild Hog Ceili Band (with Bob Laughton, Daniel Schoenfeld and Kristine Robin) entertained at weddings, festivals and restaurants. Treading the boards again in the 2010 Christmas Revels was another transformative experience, uniting her love of Irish music, choral singing, musical theater and dance. Recently she has enjoyed singing, playing and recording with the Revels’ Solstice Ensemble and trying her hand at composing.
The Musical Journey Continues Overseas.... Anne will set sail with her family for a year in Poland (with a summer stint in Ireland to get her seisiún fix--listen for her with Melanie O’Reilly on Irish National Radio July 25!) Stay tuned!
